Abstract

This IDC Perspective provides a blueprint for a sovereign cloud. IT and business executives are considering sovereign cloud as part of a multicloud strategy often with partners at the core of their capability needs. For many organizations, using a sovereign cloud usually includes the use of an in-country service provider partner as the country and regulatory nuances are complex and dynamic, with best practices that power efficiencies and optimum outcomes. Partner and service provider decisions are driven by the need to understand the regulatory and compliance environments surrounding security parameters, data access, and security, and the management of these themes across multiple countries.

"As the idea of a sovereign cloud continues to garner heavy attention from the C-suite, executives are including it in their multicloud strategy. From an operational perspective, the more time and planning placed into the early stages of defining and adopting a sovereign cloud, the higher the technology and business returns," stated Stephen Elliot, group vice president of the Cloud Operations and DevOps at IDC.
