Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight answers the following question: Compared with your organization's final spending in 2022, how is your organization's planned 2023 spending (budget) on enterprise applications changing?

IDC's January 2023 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, Wave 12, indicates respondents anticipate that enterprise application spending in 2023 will increase as compared with the level of spend in 2022. These results come while respondents simultaneously expect a recession amid an inflationary environment. Respondents considered spend levels across a variety of IT segments, including general-purpose computing devices, storage services, infrastructure, cloud connectivity, enterprise network equipment, AI and analytic services, customer engagement applications, mobile apps, PaaS data services, collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Slack), and content management services. The only segment of IT spend that survey respondents expressed more confidence in increased spending was software development tools.
