Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight provides insights on budget sources for GenAI projects segmented by organizational maturity for GenAI (investing significantly and testing). Those who are already investing significantly in GenAI are more likely to be sourcing new budget for GenAI projects from business units, instead of IT, indicating the increased significance of line-of-business decision-makers as the AI era unfolds.
The research draws from IDC's 2024 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending (FERS) Survey, Wave 1, which focuses on issues related to GenAI adoption and its implications on IT investment, governance, and partnering decisions. It is the first of four (quarterly) GenAI-centric FERS Surveys for 2024 that will investigate the implications of GenAI across regions, technologies, and industries. This survey of 881 respondents in North America, Asia/Pacific, and Western Europe was conducted in January 2024 while IT leaders were starting to execute on initial GenAI plans and developing long-term road maps.
