Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation clarifies the IDC definition of AIOps, offers a glimpse of market drivers and inhibitors, assesses evolving vendor offerings in the market, and offers a set of recommendations for communications service providers (SPs) as they seek to achieve greater network flexibility, improved efficiency, and enhanced monetization through the adoption of cloud-native capabilities. This presentation was presented to numerous IDC clients in late 2022 and early 2023.

As communications SPs move toward future network architectures governed by cloud-native architectures, this ushers in a much greater role for automation and orchestration across various physical, virtual, and containerized network functions, as well as AI-informed operations and monetization platforms. This in turn raises the importance of adopting AIOps within network operations. IDC sees AIOps becoming the "new normal" for IP operations, with at least 40% of large enterprises adopting AIOps solutions to automate major IT system and service management processes by 2025. However, network-related AIOps brings its own unique set of challenges for communications SPs as well as a vendor community that overlaps, but does not entirely match, the more generalized ITOps vendor roster.
