Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight looks at the ways in which IT buyers are using data and analytics tools to create new business models, products, and services. It includes data from IDC's 3Q22 Cloud Pulse survey. Survey respondents include cloud buyers globally who were asked to disclose the kind of data (e.g., real-time data or historical data from within their organization) that their organization uses for analytics purposes and the sort of data analytics tools that they use (i.e., traditional analytics tools versus artificial intelligence [AI]).

"According to IDC's Cloud Pulse survey, there is a relatively even split between the proportion of organizations using traditional analytics tools versus AI. However, AI is also more widely used among organizations operating hybrid clouds and multicloud environments with some degree of interoperability as well as in IT environments with high levels of automation," said Chris Drake, senior research director, BuyerView research at IDC. "We expect the use of AI-based data analytics solutions to become increasingly widespread, especially as organizations advance with cloud-based transformation projects and as they make greater use of automation within their IT environments. This may partly reflect the need for more sophisticated data analytics solutions within more complex IT environments."
