Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight highlights differences between product manufacturing leaders (top 30%) and laggards (bottom 70%) regarding the perception and response to quality, risk, and cost concerns. Leaders and laggards are segmented based on key performance indicators, such as success of new product introductions (NPI), overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), supplier defect rate (SDR), mean time to failure (MTTF), and operating margin. Data provided reveals the opportunity for manufacturers to change, and suggestions are for how technology suppliers can support the transition.

In IDC's June 2022 Product Quality and Digital Transformation Survey, we asked a broad range of questions about causes, business pressures, strategic actions, and manufacturer's capabilities related to product quality. In this document, the results of that survey are evaluated from the perspective of leaders and laggards, highlighting the opportunity for technology applications to drive digital transformation across the life cycle.
