Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective assesses the benefits of workflow optimization toward improving productivity, business efficiency, and resulting revenue opportunities. The assessment looks at the direct and indirect value-add pathways of workflow optimization on business process engagement and employee-led outcomes while examining the benefits of separating organizational technology mandates from how employees engage enterprise software across their individual flows of work.

IDC has found (see IDC's Future of Enterprise Resilience Survey, Wave 2; n = 1,191) that 82% of organizations that are accelerating digital transformation (DX) plan to make significant changes to inform how they should improve their business and operating models. A key concern for DX leaders is that as digital and process complexity grows, employee productivity for any given role risks declining by up to as much as 70%. Organizations are realizing upward of 42% higher operational efficiency and 74% higher productivity for every dollar spent on personalized workflow design and delivery.
