Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation reviews the state of skills globally, looks at the impact of the skills shortage, and examines the steps that organizations are taking to mitigate the skills challenge. It also provides guidance to IT buyers and CIOs as well as technology vendors on how to address the current state of skills globally.

IDC research shows that staffing and labor shortages are one of the biggest factors impacting IT spending in 2022. Economic challenges and the need to transform digitally are exacerbating the lack of talent and/or the need for talent with the right skills. Hybrid work models and digital business amplify demand for technical skills from IT and line of business as well as key human skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.
