Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation presents results from IDC Government Insights' Buyer Intelligence Survey. IDC Government Insights conducted the survey through January 2022 to understand the U.S. government buyer journey and gain insights for more effective and impactful technology decision making and investment. This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation looks at public safety agency responses to questions specific to technical debt and its impact on staff resources, budgets, and capabilities in cybersecurity, digital services, and data management and analytics.

The results show a tremendous level of technical debt in these areas that is a barrier to success and an inhibitor to state and local government's ability to maintain, update, transform, and innovate in these software areas.

IDC Government Insights' Buyer Intelligence Survey is designed to help technology suppliers and government technology buyers, decision makers, procurement officers, and policymakers devise strategies and policies that maximize technology benefits, enable government to protect and service the public, and support sound investment decisions.

IDC Government Insights' Buyer Intelligence Survey collects results from 1,315 respondents, both IT and non-IT decision makers. Public safety agency n values varied by topic area:

  • Cybersecurity n = 146
  • Data management and analytics n = 82
  • Digital services n = 64
