Abstract

This IDC Survey details results from IDC's 2022 U.S. Smart Home Survey, which was fielded in June. The survey asked respondents questions regarding consumer adoption of and attitudes toward a variety of smart home and smart office devices and services, security and privacy concerns, and smart assistants. This IDC Survey focuses on aspects of the survey related to home automation, monitoring, and control devices and applications.

"The concept of the smart home is broadly popular in the United States," said Adam Wright, senior research analyst for IDC's Smart Home and Office Devices program. "Almost half of the households with a Wi-Fi network own at least one smart home device — excluding networked entertainment devices like smart TVs and streaming sticks. Encouragingly, smart home users report high overall satisfaction with their devices, although the market's growth will continue to be hampered by costs, a perceived lack of need, and concerns around privacy and security."
