Abstract

This IDC Survey provides insight into the state of data management in modern times. Survey analysis includes development of a scorecard to segment the survey population into different levels of data management ability, influenced by how each respondent evaluated their current state of digital business. This segmentation identifies that those who do data management well achieve better financial and operational business outcomes and experience more significant improvements because of investing in data management initiatives.

"Modern data environments are highly distributed, diverse, and dynamic, in addition to modern organizations faced with diversity and debt in data management technologies as advancements in data management drive the need for new technologies, that may not work with sticky legacy software and data," says Stewart Bond, research vice president for Data Intelligence and Integration Software research at IDC. "Results of this survey validate the need for a data control plane to take control of modern data environments and provide insight into where and how investments are being made to improve data management amid the reality of disruptive times and economies that modern organizations are operating within."
