Measuring Employee Productivity in the Hybrid Era of Work
Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight draws data from IDC's April 2022 Future of Work Global Survey and explores adoption of different employee productivity metrics across three key regional geographies of North America, EMEA, and Asia/Pacific. Since IDC last asked about productivity measures in July 2021, assumptions about worker productivity and how it should be measured have been shifting in both predictable and new ways. The data demonstrates an alignment across geographies toward adoption of customer satisfaction as a top measure of employee productivity. This alignment is the exception as there are clear distinctions and affinities between regions, especially where skills development is concerned.
"Organizations are grappling with how to drive and measure employee productivity in an era where the dynamics between employee experience and customer experience are becoming increasingly interdependent," said Amy Loomis, research director, Future of Work at IDC. "While customer satisfaction draws the greatest consensus as a productivity measure across geographies, traditional productivity measures around task completion and more holistic ones around teaming are top priorities as well.
