This IDC study provides a view of worldwide augmented reality hardware market shares by vendor for 2021.

"Growth remained uneven in the AR headset market during 2020," said Tom Mainelli, group vice president of Devices and Consumer Research at IDC. "While the ongoing challenges associated with the pandemic have driven continued strong interest in AR across the spectrum of companies, not all of those companies are leveraging headsets to embrace the technology. As a result, we expect growth in AR's software and services areas to proliferate in the coming years, largely driven by smartphone and tablet usage. While 2021 was a modestly down year, we expect the AR headset market to grow in 2022 and beyond as established players bring out new products and major players enter the space."
