Abstract

This IDC study presents IDC's fourth iteration of the digital transformation use case taxonomy for facility management. It includes descriptions of the strategic priority, programs, and use cases for this horizontal function.

"There will be, at least in the foreseeable future, a continued need for technicians to go onsite to maintain and repair critical building assets, ensure occupant comfort and safety, and assess and preserve the intrinsic value of facilities. However, how this work is accomplished is evolving, and facility technicians today can be equipped with a vast array of remote monitoring and diagnostic tools, which enable them to quickly spot pending failure issues and determine the right time to provide proactive maintenance," says Bob Stallard, research manager, Enterprise Asset Management and Smart Facilities at IDC. "Facility maintenance organizations are challenged to effectively use the enormous amounts of data they collect to maintain facilities at a lower cost, reimagine past maintenance tactics, and adjust to a new environment of fluctuating occupancy, climate impacts, sustainability requirements, and evolving building use scenarios."
