Abstract

This IDC study describes the five stages of maturity for technology skill development. IT organizations that can effectively balance IT professionals' aspirations with both near-term and long-term strategic objectives will be increasingly successful in achieving the enterprise's digital transformation objectives. A mature IT learning and development (L&D) organization connects strategic and operational IT objectives with a development program and covers a range of dimensions including vision, process, technology application, and robust use of skill assessment.

"IT organizations that can balance IT professionals' aspirations and development objectives with strategic business objectives consistently achieve their digital transformation goals. Achieving technology skill development maturity takes time, but the impact will be a dramatic increase in organizational resilience and agility." — Cushing Anderson, program vice president, IT Education and Skills for Digital Transformation
