Abstract

This IDC Survey document highlights the results of automation-related questions in the latest survey conducted by IDC's European Intelligent Business Execution Practice in January 2023. These questions addressed uses, investment plans, challenges, and opportunities to automation development as well as the main barriers to adoption that development decision makers face and expect in 2023.

The survey included 475 European enterprises in 14 countries and was administered in mid-January 2023. The sample quota comprises respondents from different types of business roles, focusing on decision makers responsible for data and analytics: business management (32%), technology management (50%), and technology practitioner (38%) roles.

"Even though business automation is now a mainstream activity, relationships with automation vendors are undergoing revisions in 2023 and 2024," said Elitsa Kortenska, senior research analyst, IDC. "59% of decision makers aim to consolidate, simplify, and streamline their relationships with automation vendors. Their strategies for doing so, however, diverge. This IDC Survey outlines the most notable trends in automation across European enterprises."
