Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight looks at what organizations consider to be the main advantages — if any — of using local and in-country cloud providers over global or regional ones. Respondents who took part in IDC's European Multicloud Survey conducted in August 2021 were IT/IS managers or above who were knowledgeable about cloud, and from various industry sectors and company sizes across Europe.

Regulatory compliance emerges as the top reason, overtaking the need for digital sovereignty which is currently regarded as less important than factors such as the advantages of offering industry cloud services and a local cloud ecosystem. Therefore, in-country providers can offer customers the "cloud comfort factor" by presenting themselves as local companies with an exclusive understanding of local market needs.
