What Should You Expect from a Regional Datacenter Run by a Global Cloud Provider?
Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight looks at what organizations expect from a regional datacenter of a global cloud provider such as AWS, Google, and Microsoft Azure. It shows data from respondents that took part in the IDC European Multicloud Survey conducted in August 2021. Respondents were IT/IS managers or above that were knowledgeable about cloud from various industry sectors and company sizes across Europe.
The poll revealed that the highest expectation among enterprise organizations that were either already using cloud services (or planning/considering to do so) was the offer of a full portfolio of services. However, global cloud services rarely offer their full range of products at their regional datacenters as they are dictated by demand, so enterprise users need to manage their expectations here.
Expectations regarding the cost of services presents another dichotomy. While some global cloud providers may think they can justify charging extra for services delivered from their regional datacenters, and some enterprise customers believe this to be the case, most organizations expect lower costs here.
