Abstract
This Survey Spotlight, based on IDC's' 2022 Future of Operations Survey, highlights how utilities companies in Asia/Pacific will invest in new technologies to make the remote monitoring of operations a central focus in the future. The digitalization of remote operations will require new technologies, such as cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), and new sensors, which will be used to deliver various use cases: better inspection and predictive maintenance, improved safety, and audit and quality procedures. This document offers insight on these priorities and use cases and explains why utility companies should look to invest now to reap long-term benefits.
"The transformation of frontline operations requires new technologies, and utilities will need to make significant investments in digital technologies to optimize their inspection, maintenance, audit and health and safety processes. Strategic investments in cloud, edge/industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), AI, and networking capabilities will offer long-term benefits, such as greater visibility over operations, real-time performance tracking, better security and regulatory compliance, and, perhaps most critically, improved workforce health and safety," says Rakesh Patni, associate research director, IDC Asia/Pacific Energy Insights and Future of Operations.
