Russia–Ukraine War: Impact and Implications for the China Tech Industry
Abstract
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sparked a tremendous global response, including economic and technology sanctions from many countries. Several countries, including China, have abstained from voting on the United Nations resolution on March 2, 2022 to condemn Russia's aggression against Ukraine. This IDC Perspective aims to shed light on the impact of this war to China’s burgeoning tech sector and players, with scenarios for both containment and expansion strategies. IDC’s analysis includes the impact on two of the largest market segments for China tech vendors: mobile phones and PC devices.
"The China ICT industry is aware of both the opportunities and risks present in light of the impact of the economic sanctions on Russia. IDC expects that in the longer term, the war will likely further drive and faster bifurcate Eastern and Western tech industries," says Linus Lai, VP of software and services, IDC Asia/Pacific.
