Abstract

This IDC Perspective discusses effective data cultures and proposes data-related practices for developing one. It explores the key drivers of a data culture from top-down and bottom-up approaches, examining the role of leadership and the value of skills and knowledge competency involving data in creating meaning in employees' work, thus making them more productive and satisfied in their companies.

"Leadership is key to culture change. The management should define the business opportunity, assess the potential benefits, and gain their employees' support for this agenda by creating avenues to build skills and equip them with the data and analytics tools to use the data," says Dr. Chris Marshall, vice president for Analytics, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence, IDC Asia/Pacific. "Building a data culture can determine an enterprise's survival and success," he added.
