Chromebook Gains Traction in Asia/Pacific
Abstract
This IDC Market Note investigates the key factors contributing to the surge of Chromebook shipments in Asia/Pacific (including Japan) (APJ) despite Google's continuous effort in Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia in previous years. Prior to 2020, 87% of worldwide Chromebook shipments in education were in the United States. But last year, shipments in APJ surged to take up 15% of the share. Chromebook shipments in education across Asia/Pacific reached nearly 3.5 million units in 2020.
“Google did a good job in gaining mindshare with teachers at the grassroot level in the past few years, but the key factor in its recent surge is its ability to convince the decision makers in the education ministries in the countries”, says Kenneth Liew, associate director, Devices, IDC Asia/Pacific.
