Abstract

This IDC Market Forecast analyzes network equipment spending and total capex, including Asia/Pacific's nonequipment structures and facilities in both fixed-line and mobile networks.

"At the end of 2020, with over 112 million 5G connections, Greater China formed a significant portion of global 5G subscribers and 5G capex. Mobile network operators (MNOs) in Taiwan and the PRC have increased capex by 8–44% in 2020 and are expected to continue the trend in 2021 as they expand population coverage, add capacity, and densify the RAN footprint. At the same time, all MNOs in the region trial, test, and create new 5G uses for different industry and Smart City use cases by working with ecosystem partners. As a consequence, Greater China is building 5G ecosystems of partners across leading industries, including manufacturing, retail, utilities, consumer, and transportation," says Bill Rojas, adjunct research director, IDC Asia/Pacific.
