Utilities Priorities Within the Australia and New Zealand Power Sector

By: Jayesh VermaResearch Manager

On-line Presentation

This IDC Presentation analyses the priorities of the utilities industry in the Australia/New Zealand (ANZ) market. This report provides an overview of regulatory and governing structures as well as investment priorities, renewable reforms, business priorities, enabling technologies, use cases, and digital opportunities for ANZ. The information presented in this report draws on IDC research activities, analysts' point of view, and IDC's 2020 Industry 4.0 Survey, which covers 103 utilities organisations across Asia/Pacific, including 40 organisations in ANZ.

Australia's energy market is organised by state, and different states have different levels of competition and state control. Irrespective of different environments, utilities organisations across ANZ are committed to a "zero-carbon grid." The regulatory landscape and disruptive forces lead businesses to prioritise their business goals and develop capabilities to meet the market's changing needs.

"The growing renewables and distributed energy resources (DERs) are creating an environment of complexity, and organisations are investing on digitalisation to deal with the increasing complex and dynamic business environments. The integration of silos and innovation is at the top of various focus areas. 3rd Platform technologies, such as cloud, Internet of Things (IoT), mobility, and analytics, are particularly gaining traction," says Jayesh Verma, research manager, IDC Asia/Pacific Energy Insights.
