Abstract

This IDC Survey details the findings from a survey that aimed at understanding the current landscape and the future of tools and vendor consolidation among North American organizations. IDC conducted the survey in November and December 2023.

Out of 508 respondents, insights were gathered regarding the use of various security platforms including the cloud-native application protection platform (CNAPP), data security, endpoint detection and response (EDR), extended detection and response (XDR), network security, next-generation firewall (NGFW), security information and event management (SIEM), security service edge (SSE), and vulnerability/exposure management.

This segment of the research is dedicated to assessing the current state and future plans of the direction of security products, specifically:

  • Current tool deployment — Identifying the tools currently utilized within existing platforms
  • Future tool adoption — Planning to integrate the additional tools available within the company's existing vendor platforms
  • Vendor consolidation strategy — Assessing the intention to streamline the vendor list by incorporating more tools from the current platform providers and replacing those sourced from other vendors
  • Tool elimination considerations — Analyzing potential tool eliminations, particularly those caused by redundancy, integration challenges, or functional overlaps
