Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight considers IDC's survey on DevOps practices, tooling, and perceptions published in 2023. The majority of respondents were already using AI and GenAI to augment software testing. Core areas of focus included test prioritization, identifying root cause of failed tests and code, test case creation, self-healing, and test case maintenance and test process improvement insights. As code assistants augment and permeate software development increasingly, effective software quality and testing strategies are vital to help ensure the quality of code that is being created more quickly with less human oversight. This IDC Survey Spotlight gives insight into the areas of benefit already being leveraged by organizations. At the same time, governance and guardrails are continuing to evolve for use of GenAI with test automation and must be part of strategies to benefit from the technology as it evolves and matures.
