Abstract

This IDC Survey examines digital infrastructure technology investment sentiment worldwide based on input from 883 IT decision makers who participated in IDC's August 2023 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, Wave 7. Despite ongoing concerns about economic uncertainties, staffing shortages, and supply chain challenges, the majority of digital infrastructure budgets are holding steady or growing in the second half of 2023.

Employee productivity, GenAI enablement, and cybersecurity are top infrastructure priorities in 2H23. Cybersecurity and infrastructure are areas most immune to any potential IT budget cuts. Skill and staffing gaps along with lack of robust IT automation, observability, and data logistics capabilities are seen as the greatest barriers to achieving top-priority digital infrastructure goals over the next 18 months.

"On a worldwide basis, IT leaders recognize the mission-critical role digital infrastructure plays in enabling digital business innovation," explains Mary Johnston Turner, research vice president, Future of Digital Infrastructure — Agenda at IDC. " Digital infrastructure budgets have remained stable or even grown in the last year. As more organizations double down on commitments to GenAI and look for ways to improve staff productivity, the majority of organizations expect to see net-new increases in digital infrastructure spending to support these efforts."
