Abstract

This Tech Buyer Presentation discusses the need for key performance indicators (KPIs) to show and improve the digital infrastructure capability and capacity supporting the transition to a digital-first enterprise.

Future IT, the foundation of IDC's Future Enterprise, depends on the orchestration of a complex business and IT technology transition; each step of the transition assumes a bedrock of digital infrastructure functionality supported by mature services. Readers of this presentation will benefit from the definition of five areas used to assess infrastructure maturity and guide actions defining and improving the infrastructure supporting the journey to a digital-first enterprise. Examples of KPIs are given for each of the five areas, both strategic in nature as appropriate for the attention of the C-Suite and the board of directors and tactical to communicate the performance to the IT organization and internal customers of IT.

"Success in the highly visible facets of digital transformation such as improving the customer experience or implementing a new business model assumes the existence of a well-architected and well-controlled digital infrastructure operating in the background with the desired performance and functionality," says Cora Carmody, adjunct research advisor with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "Review, revise, retire, or replace metrics as needed to show and track your journey to Future IT."
