Abstract
This IDC Market Presentation reviews the development of generative AI (GenAI) in the telecoms industry. Since the release of ChatGPT in November 2022, telcos have actively engaged in extensive trials and development of generative AI applications, allocating funding for new projects to accelerate their transformation.
In this presentation, Peter Chahal (Research Director, Worldwide Telecom), Chris Silberberg (Research Manager, EMEA Telco Insights), and Matias Cho (Research Analyst Intern, EMEA Telco Insights) explore how the industry is leveraging GenAI. This includes discussions of telcos' preferred foundational models and large language models (LLMs) and the breadth of potential use cases being explored across the business and in specific domains including telco business support systems (BSS), operations support systems (OSS), and network environments. This work also provides insights into the timeline for the adoption of generative AI by telcos.
