Abstract

This IDC PeerScape examines the role of Internet of Things (IoT) and real-time tracking technologies in refining supply chain management (SCM), highlighting their application from intralogistics to comprehensive supply chain visibility. It outlines how IoT devices, integrated with business-to-business (B2B) commerce platforms, facilitate the collection of real-time data on inventory, shipment statuses, and product quality. This integration enables organizations to make informed decisions, optimizing supply chain processes and operational efficiency. Despite the potential benefits, the adoption of these technologies in Asia/Pacific encounters challenges, including varying levels of infrastructure readiness, complex regulatory environments, and disparities in technological adoption.

"Real-time data is revolutionizing supply chain operations, fundamentally altering established methodologies," says Stephanie Krishnan, associate VP, Manufacturing, Retail, and Energy Insights, IDC. "Organizations that are reluctant to embrace real-time visibility with regard to location and other measures will find their agility compromised, struggling to keep pace in a landscape in which instant insights are pivotal to maintaining competitive advantage," she adds.
